What distinguishes an estate-authorized print: the verso markings that identify it, the archival standards it must meet, and how to verify provenance.
Estate Authorization
This print is authorized by the Estate of Joan Munkácsi. All estate-authorized prints bear a copyright stamp and estate signature on the verso and are produced to archival standards.
Archival Standards
- Paper
- Baryta-coated fiber-base paper. No resin-coated (RC) substrates. The paper base must be archival-grade, acid-free, and rated for museum permanence.
- Inks
- Pigment-based inks only. Dye-based inks are not used in estate-authorized prints. Pigment formulations are rated for 100+ years of light fastness under standard display conditions.
- Editions
- Each authorized print is produced in a defined edition. Edition size and number are recorded in the estate registry and noted on the verso.
- Verso markings
- All estate-authorized prints bear the estate copyright stamp, the edition number, and an estate signature or embossed seal on the verso. These markings are applied before the print leaves the estate's authorized printing facility.
How to Identify an Authorized Print

- Handwritten or embossed edition number (e.g., 3/25)
- Estate signature or authorized representative's signature
- Certificate of authenticity issued by the Estate of Joan Munkácsi
- Provenance documentation traceable to Howard Greenberg Gallery
