Licensing Workflow

  1. Submit a request

Contact the estate with the details of your intended use: the specific images required, the medium (print, digital, broadcast, exhibition, or academic), territory, duration, print run or circulation, and the name and description of the publication or project. Requests may be submitted via the contact page.

  2. Estate review

The estate reviews each request individually and responds with a confirmation of permission, the applicable terms, and the required credit line. Please allow 10–15 business days for review of initial requests. Rights inquiries from major institutional or commercial clients may require additional coordination.

  3. Materials coordination

Once terms are agreed, the estate coordinates delivery of high-resolution materials as appropriate. For archival-quality reproductions, the estate works with the International Center of Photography (ICP) and Howard Greenberg Gallery, New York. Materials are released only upon confirmation of the licensing agreement.

  4. Final confirmation

Confirm usage details, fees, and the exact credit line in writing before publication or exhibition. The estate requires the agreed credit line wherever the image is reproduced. Standard format: © Estate of Joan Munkácsi / [Publication or Venue Name].
